Haven

I built us a Haven
Close to the sea
Its ladders are rope
And its foundation is dirt
And roots
Its walls are a fortress
Stacked high with slabs
Of sedimentary stone
So stable, it can withstand
A forest blaze

I built us a Haven
So we can be free
And climb two thousand feet
Above the clouds
Where Giants roam
And geese lay gold
Because Here, no one can tell us
That our imaginary
Is any less real
Than their reality
We'll be together, Here
Where the currency is seashells
And the cost of living is free of charge
Here,
Where slingshots and pebbles
Are the only means of defense
We'll ever need everyday
And the tomatoes grow
In abundant supply

And Here, I'll make sure you never cry
Tears of pain or melancholy or sorrow
And we'll stay up
From dawn until tomorrow
Talking
About everything and nothing
Until the sky bleeds
In a vibrant crimson display

Yes, Here, we'll stay
Where the trees do not crack and turn hollow
When lightning strikes
Nor do their branches
Tremble and tear in a tempest
We'll stay
Where the grass is greener all year round
Away
From a world that does not
Accept us for that which we are
And we'll sleep
Under stars like bioluminescent fish
In a vast and eternal sea
And I swear I'll keep us safe
As long as you're with me

And I swear
I would hide you from the rest of the world
If you said you needed privacy
You mean more to me
Than I can fit into a thousand pages

Which is to say,
I built you a Haven
Close to the sea
With ladders of rope
And a foundation of dirt
and roots

So that you can be free
From the righteous indignation
Of those who call you Monster,
Too blinded by their bitter hatred
To see you
For who you are,
Not what
They were taught to despise
I built you a Haven
So that you can be
Exactly

Who you are
Because, to me,
You are
Loved
You are
Worthy
You are
Enough
You are Everything
To me
And I
Will stop at Nothing
To make sure
You are
Happy
And no one
Can take that away
Or hurt you
Ever again

So please,
Take this Haven
Not as fantasy
But as a safe space
That I built
For you and me
A place
We can finally
Call,

"Home"
